A brief history of first baptist church

First Baptist Church was organized at the state house capital building in 1812 with a membership of 23 (14 blacks and 9 whites). The first church building was on Moore Square. The church moved to the corner of Wilmington and Morgan Streets in 1844. The bi-racial group worshiped here for 22 years. In 1904 the black membership was able to purchase the property on Wilmington and Morgan streets were we currently worship. Since that date we have 10 pastors.
